I coudn't, but my grandma could possibly, even if not beat it, but at least make one as good as your mum - that's called 'Pain Perdu à l'Anglaise', which is exactly 'Bread Pudding'

It's not actually the same as described. That's 'Bread and Butter Pudding' which is also quite nice.
That is very much dissimilar to proper Bread Pudding.
The ingredients may be similar, but the different methods make Bread Pudding a heavier, more cake-like dessert.-

'pain perdu à l'anglaise' is also sweet and cake-like, but if you say the one your mum makes a better one, then I agree that 'one has't lived until one hasn't eaten ... er... first wasabe peas washed down with that special cider, and then a slice of your mum's bread pudding, followed by a very tiny slice of my grandma's pain perdu à l'anglaise..."
