I was talking to a young Russian colleague yesterday who told me that in Russia there is a common expression, 'Leaving like an Englishman' which means just sneaking away from a social event without fuss and without saying goodbye.
Certainly the first time I have heard this.
Are there any other sayings about the English/British out there?

I have on occasions left like that .

I used to spend a fair bit of time in Dundee and like the Scots but I did hear a fair amount of criticism of the English
Southern English were very much thought of as the worst if I remember rightly
That'll be because we are all snootily arrogant , frightfully well-orf 'yuppie' types , as opposed to Northerners and Scots who are all hard-working , 'salt of the earth' , lovely 'model citizens' !

Pro I've heard the expression "he drinks like an Englishman" before, though not in English-speaking countries. It refers to being able to drink large amounts of alcohol, of course.
A variation is "he boozes like an Englishman".
Can't think of any others at the moment, though.

That's interesting, funny how not making a fuss can be perceived as a (presumably) undesirable characteristic.
