Are Tesco's blueberries REALLY blueberries?
@ 2009-09-25 – 06:24:30
Are Tesco's blueberries the real "superfruit"?
The evidence:
Wild blueberries taste fantastic and stain everything a reddish blue (not exactly purple): You can't hide the fact you've been picking them because of stained hands and you can't hide the fact you couldn't wait to get home to start eating them because your blue lips and tongue give you away.
Tesco's blueberries are much bigger but tasteless by comparison.
They are green inside and stain nothing.

Different Prices

Why is the identical product often sold at ten different prices in spite of a RRP?

An inconvenient truth?
@ 2009-09-18 – 12:39:23
Is it immoral to meet an ex-partner while you are with a new one and lie to him/her about your previous relationship with this ex-partner and claim that you have only ever been friends even when the current partner explicitly asks the question, 'have you ever been in a relationship with this person?'

Estate Agency Fees Advice
@ 2009-09-16 – 12:31:08
We are hoping to put our flat on the market soon, and today I spoke to an estate agent who said he'd only charge £2000 as his fee, that it would normally be £2,500.
Brokendownangel has said that some agencies only charge 1-1.5% of the sales price, our flat is apparently worth £120-£125k. If I go with this am I being ripped off? I've never sold a house before so have NO EXPERIENCE.
Also, is it better to go with the company that undervalues your home in the chances of getting a higher bid, or the one that overvalues and possibly gets you that high bid? We need to get the most we can (obviously I guess) so we can upsize quickly.
Any help gratefully appreciated
Thank you

If you fidget with you widget
Even alter by one digit
You will alter all your settings
And they'll never seem the same
So unless you really want to
Change the things that you click on to
Never fidget with your widget
You only have yourself to blame

Winery Owners
@ 2009-09-12 – 23:04:00
I'm looking for a listing of winery owners in NW France. I think around Saint-Emilion. I have lost touch with a friend who is said to have moved to France in that area and owns a winery called Chateau Brasson or Bresson. I have no idea how to start looking except to find an online directory of the residents and/or winery owners. Also, I am at a distinct disadvantage being a dumb Yank and as a 40's baby, I my mind frequently takes a little vacation. Any ideas?

Pocket money
@ 2009-09-12 – 19:18:41
How much should they get?
The blonde used to get €5 a week if she kept her room tidy, just from the cleaners visit on Thursday until her Daddy's inspection on Saturday morning - she rarely made it.
Now, we are giving her 20 x 2pence (sterling) a week on a Saturday, she then has to give back a 2p every time her room is not reasonably tidy before bed, every time she fails to lay the table and every time she is cheeky (in a bad attitude way). Then the following Saturday she gets the 2ps that are left converted into 50cent each, thus earning a maximum of €10.
I think we should increase her pocket money to include all her spending needs for the week and not give her any other money apart from paying for swimming and horse-riding.
She currently asks for and usually gets a month;
€20 - €5 every Saturday night for bingo with her mate and her aunt
€20 - for her phone credit
€10 - for the monthly Gaelic Athletic Association disco
€20 - €5 a week for sweets, magazines etc
This is a total of €70 a month - Jesus it sounds like a lot when you say it out loud! The question is should we up the 2ps to cover all of it and tell her that if she hasn't enough she won't be going to some things and let her decide or do what we are currently doing?I think she will learn more if she knows she cannot come to us for money all the time, losing the whole of the €10 a week really won't affect her that much, and I can't see there being many months that cost us the whole €70, so we would save in the end.

What would eat humans as food?
@ 2009-09-12 – 13:12:04
At our regular walking group, one walker posed the question "What or who would eat humans for food?"
We were passing the herd of cows, with their resident bull in their field.
This led him to thinking about how we have manipulated the cows, and husbanded them to get their skins for clothing, their milk for drinking and their meat for eating. He reasoned "what, or who, would find it worthwhile to keep us in pens and use us for their own reasons?"
Maybe Aliens would come and make us into more animal like creatures than we are now?
Or maybe in the future, some bigger animal may be discovered that would be bigger, more powerful or intelligent than us, who would find uses for us to be useful to their survival. What do you think to this? It certainly gave us something to think about as we walked. Exercise for the body and exercise for the mind too. Can't be bad!

Like an Englishman?
@ 2009-09-12 – 06:53:36
I was talking to a young Russian colleague yesterday who told me that in Russia there is a common expression, 'Leaving like an Englishman' which means just sneaking away from a social event without fuss and without saying goodbye.
Certainly the first time I have heard this.
Are there any other sayings about the English/British out there?

Free Speech, or "No Platform"?
@ 2009-09-08 – 19:55:49
Have discussed this already on my own blog, but felt it would reach a wider audience here.
So, my question;
Are the BBC right to allow Nick Griffin on Question Time?
My own opinion, let him sit on a panel with people who are skilled at taking opposing arguments to pieces and watch him make stupid comments and commit career suicide.
Another question - who would you have on a panel with him?

Does anyone know of any product i can use on them so that they don't jump and ruin my neddle, is it possible to restore them at all, obviously i know the quality will be gone but it's just too sad to watch them gather dust if i can't repair them
Thanks guys

Are we being brainwashed by G & W?
@ 2009-09-08 – 14:22:27
Are we being brainwashed by Google and Wikipedia? Does the Internet mark the end of original thinking? On the other hand maybe we've just come to a cul-de-sac in most fields of human endeavour.

You stink!
@ 2009-09-07 – 12:54:34
The young guy that does our garden and various jobs around the house is good looking and fit, but he stinks! I don't mean he just smells a bit sweaty when he has finished hours of manual labour on a hot day either, when he first arrives he smells really bad. He only has to walk through the kitchen on his way to the garden for the smell to linger for hours. Hubby has said he will speak to him next week when he gets back from his trip but I don't know if I can wait that long.
He came into the study today to ask me a question - he stood in the doorway which is a good 6 feet from where i sit, when he left the smell was so bad that I had to spray the air - I grabbed the nearest aerosol, it was craftmount permanent adhesive - there is now dried glue all over the front of my phone!!!!!
So, how do I tell him that he really really smells?? -

Halloween Costume Ideas
@ 2009-09-02 – 15:17:09
As is the tradition now (4th year running anyway!) we are going to our friend's halloween party next month.
But I'm stuck for ideas as to my costume, all help appreciated please (and BF's if anyone can think of male ones as well please!).
So far I have been a devil, a witch and a murder victim. BF has been Jason something (can't remember the film but was the one with the guy in the hockey mask), the grim reaper (which we smothered him in nappy cream and talc - but that's another story
) and an evil clown mime artist.I half thought of Medusa but apparently someone was her last year plus I'm struggling to think how to make my head of snakes. I also thought about a vampiress and I'm considering getting some scary contacts! I don't just want to buy a complete outfit though, I want to make some part of it myself (but no good with a sewing machine!)
Anyone got any tried and tested outfits or ideas please??
Thank you
xx

Go on - get it off your chest!!!
@ 2009-09-02 – 12:44:37
Following on from the previous post by BDA here's a question for you:
What is the worst present your partner has ever bought for you?
Mine was a huge whicker bathroom shelf 'thingy' which he brought back from Austria. This was subsequently returned and exchanged for a sheepskin rug.
Note: Household items should not be allowed as presents apart from those given as wedding gifts!

Too much to ask?
@ 2009-09-02 – 09:40:12
Hubby asked me what I would like for my upcoming birthday, bearing in mind it is just over a week away, so anything that would need to be ordered is out and we live in a little town with not a lot in it and he hates shopping!
Anyway, do you think that after 12 years together it is too much to ask for him to be able to buy me something that he knows I will love, or to pick up on the various hints I have made throughout the year to know without a doubt what I want?
And, do I tell him what I want thus letting him off the hook but annoying me everytime I so much as glance at the thing or do I leave him hanging and hope he gets it right?? the second option may well mean having to smile sweetly as i set off for a local cookery course or somesuch thing

How soon is too soon?
@ 2009-09-01 – 12:18:10
For those that know me, you know I like a good party but especially the planning and organising of a do!
But how soon is too soon to be planning a party? I'm talking about a 30th birthday party. It's not till next August but how soon do I look at trying to find somewhere to book? (inviting more people than my house will hold!) And how soon to book entertainment?
Thanks
