  • Most common speed limits in the UK?

In preparation for my trip to the Peak District SOON, I'd like to have a sticker ready with the conversion of the most common speed limits in the UK.

I know the "normal" speed limits (for POVs):
    30 mph in towns
    60 mph on single carriageways
70 mph on dual carriageways and motorways

But I'm sure there are more, local speed limits on the roads, like when you're approaching a dangerous intersection, or there might be less than 30 mph in towns.

Can you tell me which other common speed limits there are?

  • What surprises people about you?

    Good morning, all! :D

I'm curious again (that's just me :>> ): do you have a characteristic or a preference that surprises people?

For example, I'm somewhat of a bubbly person and people are often surprised at how much I hate light, because they associate "darkness lovers" with gothic / depressed people.

Or, they think I'm a party girl but really, I prefer watching documentaries on TV or read science books which they didn't expect of me.

What about you? How do you surprise people?

  • Facebook and Twitter Users Targeted by Burglars

Do You Use Facebook or Twitter?

If you do, I hope you are careful:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/twitter/6096677/Facebook-and-Twitter-users-could-be-targeted-by-burglars.html

"Users of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter could face higher insurance premiums because burglars may be using them to find out their personal details

The Digital Criminal report, which polled 2,000 social network users, found nearly two fifths had posted details of their holiday plans, with nearly two thirds of 16-24 year-olds doing so.

Mr Fraser, a reformed thief, said: "There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that burglars are using social networks to identify likely targets"

    Let's be careful out there!

  • 1x4 is 4 2x 4 is 8 blah blah blah blah blah!

Does anyone know of an easy way to teach their kids the Times Tables?
I was always crap at times tables at school,
Mo can rhyme them of (smart arse)
I have been trying to help Jade but it is so tedious and boring even i am fed up
I did order one of these cd's of the internet but it is crap,
the voice is computerised and it is not a good layout so it sounds very drone like,
I thought because it was for kids it would have been fun and interesting,

So if anybody knows of a good way it would be a great help,
    Thanks! xx

  • furniture

    hello,

in 'property snakes & ladders' and other such property programmes, when people buy houses to do up and sell on, the houses, when finished, are always shown fully furnished.

do the developers buy all that furniture, plasma tv's, sofas, beds, the lot, just to show off the house? what do they do when the house sells? sell the furniture with the house? does it go into storage? was it hired? i must know this!

  • My dishwasher stinks!

Literally. It's developed a horrific stench that's detectable even when the door is closed, and it's almost unbearable when the door is open.

I've cleaned the metal filter (but too late) and tried adding vinegar and washing powder (separately) to the bit of water that remains after a cleaning cycle, but without much success. Washing powder helps for a short period of time but the smell comes back.

The metal filter had paper stuck to it that had come off glasses (noodle sauces) and that started to turn foul, I assume, after being submerged in the remaining water forever.

Apart from regularly cleaning the filter, do you have any advice on what I can do to get rid of that stench?

I'm desperate to do something now while I can still have the windows open all day. Don't even want to think about what it will be like in winter if the smell prevails *urgh*

  • Are you revealing too much?

... on the web, is what I'm talking about! :>>

There's the story in the news (again) that more and more employers search social websites to find out more information about job applicants, and that many don't even get invited to an interview because of their "bad" (?) revelations.

Have you ever searched for your name on the web? And are you satisfied with what you've found? Or are you revealing too much about yourself as well?

I've googled my full name yesterday and must say that I'm quite happy with the results, everything that came up was not revealing anything about me. Has to do with me hardly ever giving out my last name. I make up a fake last name if I'm required to list one (like on stupid Facebook).

And what about you? Do you think you would get hired if a potential employer searched social websites with your name? ;)

Checking my emails in my Hotmail account this morning, I am shocked to find what appears to look like a 'spam' email sent from me to all my contacts in my email address book. • Tree surgery

Hubby was telling me today that if you banged in either a brass or copper nail or rod or similar into a tree, it would kill it. He wasn't sure what the nail needed to be made from.

Anyone know if this is true or not??

  • Burglar Alarms, Good thing or Bad?

Clearly, house alarms are intended to deter would be intruders by drawing peoples' attention to their presence.

In the past, if I heard an alarm ringing nearby I would go out of my way to investigate. Nowadays I have to admit that I don't bother unless there is real cause for suspicion.

My change of heart came about for two reasons, first there were too many false alarms and second, I realised that I was the only one paying any attention - hence, if it was my alarm going, it would be ignored.

Increasingly there seem to be occasions of alarms being triggered by momentary lapse in power supply, weather conditions and goodness knows what else. On more than one occasion recently I have been woken too early in the morning by an alarm going off that is not silenced quick enough by its owners. This occurrence happening too often will soon become a nuisance.

So, the question - House Alarms, Good or Bad?

  • Question on web site design.

My husband has asked me to design a front web page that he can then use to link to various things, such as our photos on his server.  He will host this so I just need to make it and deliver it to him.

I have no clue how to do this but I am supposed to be the creative one.  Does anyone know of some free software that I can use or can this be done in word or something like that?

    Thanks for any help!

  • Controlling bouncing boobies

Here is one for the girls. How do I keep control of my rather large boobs when I begin my running? I am unable to find two short men to run sideways alongside me holding one each to stop the incredibly painful bounce and would really rather not sling them over my shoulders.

I need a very good sports bra, I have several old ones, none of which really secures them - so I am appealing to those of you that have a fair pair and who have found the perfect sports bra.

  • Car Tyres

This has been bothering me since I swapped around the tyres on the car.

Right a worn tyres diameter and hence circumference is a bit smaller than a new tyre. Yes?

So if that's the case the number of revolutions of a worn tyre travelling a mile will be more than a new one. Yes?

So how big an effect would worn tyres have on fuel consumpition as more revolutions of tyre is from the revs through the gear box from the engine?

Thanks I think I can rest easier now that's out of my head and you guys can have a wee think and post what you think.

  • What's The Problem ?

Why do some people get so upset about the private lives of gay men ?
Few people feel similarly about lesbianism .
There's 'breaking news' tonight about shootings at a gay venue in Israel , and I read a letter in Bel Mooney's problem-advice column in today's 'Mail , from the mother of a young man , studying at university , who says that she is on valium and sleeping pills , and her husband privately cries a lot , because their son recently told them that he is homosexual .
She says she 'grieves' for the married life with a wife and children that he 'could have had' .

We don't have to like the idea of what other consenting adults legally do in private , but ( as a 'straight' man , who takes people as I find them )  I just don't get why some people get so worked up about some other people's emotional and sexual private lives .

Have you a son or daughter who has 'come out' as gay , and if so , how did that affect you , or how would it affect you  ?

I agree with Bel Mooney who said in her reply that she'd much rather have a son who was gay than one who was homophobic or racist .
