Has anyone ever been late picking up your child from either school or an event?
My daughter was at her ballet school rehearsal this past Sunday and I made sure to
look at all of the postings for the duration. Everywhere it said 2:45 to 6:00 pm.
I thought I had planty of time and popped over to the Conservatory around the corner to
see my brother perform with a choral ensemble. He was done at 4:00pm so we went and had coffee and a nice chat. I headed back to the school with my book planning to get a few chapters read. As I walked through the door there stood my daughter looking so sad and she said, "Mommy I have been waiting for an hour for you to come and take me home!" The studio was almost empty and I said I thought you were done at 6:00pm? Her teacher came out and started yelling at me and how irresponsible I am. I then pointed to the posting and said what does this time frame mean?? She proceeded to tell me they were finished early and the older children were staying until 6:00pm. I then asked why I wasn't called? Isn't that what cell phones are for!!!?? She called my house phone and left a nasty message. I still feel bad. Will I ever get over the guilt? The coffee shop was downstairs from the ballet school that is what is so awful about all of this. I guess it is time to buy my daughter a cell phone so she can contact me anytime. She is only 8 years old I was trying to hold off for awhile but after Sunday I don't know.

If it is any consolation when my youngest had a 4 year olds birthday party for her nursery group an eminent child psychologist was about an hour and a half late collecting his daughter.
She refused to leave and he had to drag her away kicking and screaming!
Never trust the experts! They have less of an idea than you do! -

No, you did nothing wrong but the ballet school definitely did with the information that you were given. The answer is, as you say, a pay as you go mobile phone locked to your number.

Did it once. I thought my daughter was walking home from school and then we were going to her Girl Scout. She thought I was picking her up at school. She was waiting and I was waiting. I called the school and they said she wasnt there. We had the police looking I was in hysterics. Come to find out she was standing right at the school sectray desk when I called. Now how can you miss a red headed child. She started walking home we found and I nearly killed the sectary. She has never let me live it down. But if it was now she will have a cell phone. So dont feel bad

I believe the teacher was grossly in error here and owes you a very sincere apology for her disgraceful outburst. You did nothing wrong, but I think a appropriately worded and terse letter to her superiors is in order, She definately requires a personlity transplant at least and abuse counselling also seems advisable

i was on time to pick up my daughter but the class had finished 10 minutes early, luckily the club is close to home and a neighbour took her in and phoned me, the club she goes to has to have consent for the children to walk home alone which i had'nt given. your daughter will forgive you especially as she now has a shiny new phone

It's not your fault - you didn't know. The postings were misleading!

These things will always happen, it is over now, you have sorted it by buying her a phone, so you can move on! Having had a problem, you have reacted so it doesn't happen again.
Well done! Love marge.-

Your actions seem perfectly reasonable - I have as yet never been late.
