Hi there peeps.
Just need to ask how easy is it to get from Glasgow to Largs?
Might have to go there in early July, depending on ease of access by public transport.
That is all ![]()

My car has broken down, not very far away, but we have to go round the one way system stopping at 4 junctions to get it home. My question is, should I be the one towing or being towed? Which is the least likely to cause damage? I hate the thought of either but we will have hubbys car and mine - tips please???

We have now seen 32 of the 40 semi finalists that were selected from the many thousands that were, we are told, auditioned.
"Talent". A special aptitude or faculty.
"Special". Particularly good. Exceptional. Out of the ordinary.
Just how many of those that we have seen so far come into this category?
Dancing dogs? Fat women leaping about? Groups that can't sing? Dancers that can't dance? An old man that jumps about? A grand dad that can't sing? Fellows that push wheelbarrows? Flower arrangers?
Maybe the show should be called, "Britain have some reasonable amateur entertainers".
PS. Of course there is an exception to every rule. This evening we saw that exception, and in my view the probable winner, Julian Smith, a brilliant talent, beautifully playing the saxophone.

As I'll be off to Berlin at the weekend, what would be the best way of getting hold of some Euros considering that I'm flying out at silly o'clock on the morning I get paid?
Should I get as much as I think I may need at the Post office tomorrow (I still have some cash left in my bank account for once,) use the Bureau de Change at the airport or just wing it on my debit card when I get to Germany?
@ 2009-05-25 – 10:20:21
This should be really easy, I've to suggest something our office could do as a whole and have fun while doing it. So far some of the ideas are urban assault courses, just spending the night in the pub, or go to the greyhound racing track.
I'm not a sporty person so the assault course idea does nothing for me and a few others and as much as I love greyhounds as dogs I'm not interested in spending a night at the tracks, yes we may get fed and get to have a few drinks but there's a few of us that just aren't interesting in it all (i.e. us girls).
Was thinking of maybe finding a hotel/pub/bar that might have a theme night like a James Bond night or something like that where we get to dress up, have a few drinks if we want and if we don't want to have a flutter or two on the games there would be other things to do, or maybe find somewhere that holds a pub quiz that's open to anyone, between us we could make up possibly three teams.
Things like this should be easy to think of, but it's blooming hard!
Any suggestions would be welcome.

I've always had trouble understanding the apostrophe.
I get that it's used to indicate that a letter/letters have been removed i.e. don't = do not and wasn't = was not.
But it is the possession business that I have never got my head round. Is it James's book or James' book??

Why is it perfectly acceptable to fall asleep on the sofa on a Sunday afternoon, yet it is completely out of order, to be watching TV, stand up, yawn and say 'I'm going to bed for an hour'?
honestly, if I did the latter, I would be looked upon as though I had suggested we eat newborn babies for dinner!

The Reverend Scott Rennie has been confirmed by the Church of Scotland as the minister at Queens Cross Church in Aberdeen. Scott Rennie has declared publicly that he is gay and in a long term relationship.
The appointment was opposed by 400 ministers and 5000 church members on an online petition. The members of the congregation of Queens Cross Church, fully aware of his private life, have asked that Scott Rennie should be their new minister.
My opinion of The Bible is that it is comprised of story's that were passed by word of mouth prior to being written down in the original language, these words have then been translated many times into many languages, often losing their original meaning, or altered to suit the translator, or was the "message" changed on instructions from those that requested the translation.
Does it say specifically in The Bible that gay persons should not be accepted by the church?
Is this the actions of a "christian" people?

I hope that the expenses revelations will be the straw that breaks the camel's back. For decades people have felt more and more isolated from those that represent and those that rule. Now is the time to get onto the real nub of the issue - the failure of politics.
The system - not just expenses but the way we govern and are governed - is defunct.
It is time for wholesale reform. Thinking of what people have suggested, here are some of my proposals.
House of Lords
Currently has 738 members on an mixed appointed basis. This can easily be reduced in number and be fully elected. Terms of five years.
House of Commons
Reduced to 500 with a two member constituency. Elected by single transferable vote from an open list. This keeps the constituency link but also has a more proportionality. A problem has been safe seats with MPs sitting for donkeys years - they become embedded. There should be no more safe seats from a party political point of view, but good MPs should still be able to be directly chosen.
David Starkey tonight suggested having a directly elected Prime Minister who appoints a cabinet, separating the ones who make laws from the ones who vote them through and removing whips.
There are also issues to consider about the change with devolution - is it time now for an English Parliament and a federal British Parliament?
What do you think?

We have recently decorated the lounge and have one blank wall and three blank canvases and I am in need of inspiration!
Wall is light cream and the coloured wall in the lounge is light green so those are the colours I want to go with and I'm happy to draw/trace the picture onto the canvases and paint it myself but I can't think of what to draw, I'm having a creative block!
I would like possibly one picture stretching across the three canvases as opposed to three individual images.
Can any of you wonderfully creative people out there in blogland provide me with some inspiration please so I can stop tearing my hair out before I reach total baldness ![]()

CONGRATULATIONS to the two of you on your amazing ability to speed read the questions in the A or A Trivia Quiz, and of course, your very extensive knowledge of trivia. It's funny, it's as though you don't even need to read the questions prior to clicking on the answer, a definite skill that, so far, has eluded me..
I, and I am sure that many of the others that take part in this FUN quiz would be keen to know whether you use the "chunking" or "eliminating subvocalization" method and would be keen to learn from your experience, obviously recognizing that different types of reading call for different speed and COMPREHENSION rates,
It is unfortunate that we are unable to view your profile and send the personal message that you both deserve.

Is there anything that YOU could do to impress them with technology or knowledge and convince them that you are not like them?

So What do you think of the Andrew Lloyd Webber concocted British Euro Song Contest entry ?
Jade Ewen : It's My Time .
She looks like a would be cross-between clone of Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke but in my humble opinion she's nowhere near as good a singer as either of them . It ought to send pleasantly tingly shivers up and down ones spine , and if she manages to produce a stunningly heartfelt rendition of it this saturday evening I suppose it just might , but , not for me . . .
How come there's so many good British popular music artists but Britain never submits decent euro-song entries anymore ( just as there's a lot of British footballing talent , and yet no chance of any British team winning the world or euro-cup ) ?
Not that I care , but , if this is really a well organised attempt to win the contest , I would'nt bet one penny on it winning .
What's your verdict on it ?

I'm sure you recall the recent blood bath in Turkey.
Nearly all reports I read / saw on TV pointed out how many women and children were amongst the dead.
Why does it matter? Why is it (seemingly) more important that women and children were killed as well?
Up to a point I can understand about children - their survival ensures continuation of humankind.
But murder is murder, regardless of who dies.
So why do we feel the need to point out the number of killed women and children?

I have made a few batches, but my yoghurt comes out very thin. This time, I was starting a new batch, with bought yoghurt to start it off (Whole milk, and whole milk yoghurt). I did add a bit more of the yoghurt into the glasses in the hope it would turn out thicker.
No luck, when we put it on our strawberries, it was very thin again.

Apparently, up and down the country in the UK all Tesco supermarkets tills are faulty and the main tills with someone serving you will only take cards. Otherwise if you want to pay by cash you have to go to a self service till! Even when I went to the cafe after grocery shopping, the till at the Tescos Cafe wasn't working either!
Anyone else had this problem this morning??
@ 2009-05-10 – 16:19:53
I didn't really know if he had or not, How can you be sure?
My problem started some 30 years ago when I planted two lovely little silver birch trees in my garden, beautiful little self seeded saplings, and, to be very honest, I stole them when I dug them up, yes, it brings to mind the saying about your sins revisiting you, any way, now I have a problem. They are too BIG.

Probably some twenty foot higher than the house and in the high winds that have been blowing lately looking likely to make contact with the tiles on the roof.
Now I realise that, sadly, I must loose about 40 foot from the top, and to this end, the gentleman that called offered to do so at a cost of £85. ( yep, sins revisited again ). "Are you insured?", I asked. "Oh yes", he assured me, "Can I see it?", I asked. "I'll bring it with me." He said.
Now I am thinking, I could knock up a pretty good looking insurance document on my computer, How will I know if it's the real thing?

According to new research, it is not the dark of winter that makes us suicidal - it is too much sun!
You think it's true?
I'm asking because I don't really like the sun either. I could easily do with the length of sunshine we get during winter for the rest of the year, I don't need any long days. But I'm not suicidal in summer

I'm running MS Word 2003 on my lappie, by my works PC is running Word 2007 and I'm just about getting used to the quite significant differences between the two.
I've just received an email at work from a colleague about a special deal that my employer has set up with Microsoft called the Software Assurance Benefits Scheme. Under this scheme I can, through its Home Use Programme, buy Word 2007, Sharepoint Designer, Project and Visio for £12.94 each.
Tempting, isn't it?
The thing is I can't really see any of the changes between 2003 and 2007 as being any great improvement. Do I upgrade for upgrade's sake? Or do I just bimble along with a comfortable, if somewhat outdated, package?

Has anyone ever been late picking up your child from either school or an event?
My daughter was at her ballet school rehearsal this past Sunday and I made sure to
look at all of the postings for the duration. Everywhere it said 2:45 to 6:00 pm.
I thought I had planty of time and popped over to the Conservatory around the corner to
see my brother perform with a choral ensemble. He was done at 4:00pm so we went and had coffee and a nice chat. I headed back to the school with my book planning to get a few chapters read. As I walked through the door there stood my daughter looking so sad and she said, "Mommy I have been waiting for an hour for you to come and take me home!" The studio was almost empty and I said I thought you were done at 6:00pm? Her teacher came out and started yelling at me and how irresponsible I am. I then pointed to the posting and said what does this time frame mean?? She proceeded to tell me they were finished early and the older children were staying until 6:00pm. I then asked why I wasn't called? Isn't that what cell phones are for!!!?? She called my house phone and left a nasty message. I still feel bad. Will I ever get over the guilt? The coffee shop was downstairs from the ballet school that is what is so awful about all of this. I guess it is time to buy my daughter a cell phone so she can contact me anytime. She is only 8 years old I was trying to hold off for awhile but after Sunday I don't know.

A question that was prompted by a comment made by brokendownangel on one of my posts made me wonder.
Is your blog private from your husband/wife/partner/family/friends ?
I did not have a computer before my wife passed away, thus, I had never had a blog. Would I have kept that blog secret from her to give me the freedom to write and post those things that I wanted to say?
Oh yes, I can well see the problems that may have arisen if she found out, Why is it a secret? Is it a woman that you are talking to? Why can't I see what you are saying?
Do we need a little time when we can write down our private thoughts to strangers and maybe get advice that is not hindered by the personal involvement? Is it OK to have things that we feel we can't talk about to our nearest and dearest? or, Don't wish to?
Are partnerships broken up by blogs? Does distrust come in?

Many years ago my mum used to have a little gadget that she chopped mint up with, for mint sauce. It looked like a little road roller,(handle on top) only had many blades that you'd roll up and down over the mint.
I was wondering if something similiar was available? I use a rocker chopper but it doesn't get the mint as fine as mum's gadget.

I've worked in 5 star hotels, numerous restaurants and bars, and only once in all of my 20 years in that industry did I actually get usable butter!!!
It happenned again today, breakfast arrives two piping hot slices of toast with my eggs, and the usual pissmeoff whammy, a small block of butter that needs to sit in intense heat for at least 5 minutes until the toast is thoroughly cold and brick like to the taste. I always thought that it would be so nice just to have some semi-soft butter to apply to my hot toast and enjoy the full flavour![]()
I can certainly understand that butter should be kept in the fridge until served, but at breakfast time could they not at least keep a few pats of it out so it's usable instead of tearing and destroying your your nice toast as you try to apply it in a similar fashion to a re-surfacing machine tearing up your street!!!
P.O'd let me have my toast fresh and in tact with usable spreadable butter so I can enjoy me damned eggs and toast while they're at least hot![]()
Didn't this ever bother you?

A recent exchange of PMs (personal messages) with a fellow blogger made me remember how difficult it was for me as a computer rookie.
If you're younger, you may have grown up with computers, but anyone over - hm, 30? 35? will remember how difficult it was learning how to use the computer.
How was it for you? What was your experience when learning computer?
Personally, we got our first computers at work in 1995 or 1996 but no classes. Do you remember Multimate?
There were some folks - all men - who knew how to use computers but whenever you asked them a question they had to show off their superiority and give you an answer that made no sense to a newbie. And the guys made sure they would NEVER give you enough details.
Went to classes privately but we had a special program designed for work so didn't get to use my "knowledge" much. And internet wasn't made available to us until 1997!
I only learnt more when I switched jobs and was sent to proper computer classes. Also, a (female) colleague at the time already knew a lot of tricks and shortcuts and did NOT have a problem sharing them with us.
With this constantly changing computer world - and Office 2007, I would like to go to computer classes again because although I've been able to figure out a lot, there are still many questions that nobody can give me answers to, not even our computer folks! (e.g., what's up with the many unnecessary slide masters in PP? And why does it mess up the slide numbers when I copy and paste slides?)
So what was it like for YOU?
