  • Where can aunt sleep?

    Ok here's my problem -

    Oldies - parents and aunt - are coming for a week holiday end of next month. (Oh just realised I mean this month.. May or is that next month? I forget the date).

    Usually no problem, as aunt sleeps on the futon, parents in spare bed BUT now we have my son and his fiancee living here, in spare bedroom. SO, parents on futon but where can aunt go?

    I am toying with the idea of a fold up bed, and putting her in the dining area, but then the problem arises when son and fiancee get up at 5am to go work. Any ideas on how to give aunt privacy until she gets up at 9am?

    I've heard the jokes about garages, tents, lofts and dog kennel.... as usual my lot are pretending they don't hear me and leaving it to me to sort out. :##

  • Beliefs

    I'm not a religious person but i don't slate people for there beliefs. i was talking earlier to a woman i know who is a Jehovahs Witness and her Gran is in hospital in a critical condition with internal bleeding and has signed off any medical treatment, that is fine she's an older woman who has her mind. I asked the Granddaughter if it was her child who needed a transfusion (i know you get syntetic blood etc) would you allow it to be done, she answered no but me being me said i thought that was wrong as the child has'nt asked to be part of any organisation.
    So do you lot think it's right that a child should be denied the chance to survive just because there parents are part of the organisation?

    Of course we all say yes, even myself that lives in Scotland, the question is, and it would be pleasing if some suggestions were also made by non- english persons.

    The ask or answer group is now just one year old, a Happy Birthday to all of us.

    It is thanks to all those that have asked questions and made comments that have made this group blog very enjoyable, as it said on the label, "Questions and comments on any subject serious or humorous" and, looking back over the last year, we have had them all, and, sometimes, "after a fashion", someone has posted the answer. We may not yet be quite a "google" or a "jeeves" but we usually have a much greater personal approach when we see that it is needed by one of our group friends.

    Between us we won the best group blog of 2009, we are now the 4th largest group on blog.co.uk. Onwards and upwards.

  • access issues

    my daughters father didnt have contact with her for over 2 years then suddenly i got a letter from his lawyer saying he wanted contact, that was about 3 years ago. i didnt take the matter to court but came to an agreement through our briefs for contact time, starting off with supervised visits until she got to know who he was, once this had been acheived he got to take her to his house or away for the day until i could trust him to have over night access. over the past few months his phone calls and contact with her has became less and less to the point that she does'nt want to go to his house. we had a blazig row the other week when (which is turning into a regular thing) he told her he'd come and get her but yet again failed to turn up. i have told him that i want it taken to court so that he must stick to his agreed arangements with her. He was offered parental rights and responsibilitys last year which he turned down. theres been no communication between them since our arguement until today when he threatened me. So if i just get up and pack my bags and disappear with her can i be prosecuted ? and if i stay does he have a right to see her even if she doesnt want to see him? she's 9

  • BIRD NEST

    I have a birds nest just above my bedroom window which houses a family of Swallows, I like to have my windows open but as the nest ends roughly about 2 inches from the window i was wondering if anyone knew if they would accidently fly into my room, I think it's the same family that returns each year and a few times i have had to pick up ones that have fallen out the nest and died, with the nice weather we're currently having i would like to be able to open my windows right up but i don't know if they got in would they be able to get back out without causing a riot in my room?
    Any help would be great

    Vandalism at large- caught in the act!

    So Bobslayer and I were returning home after a literary rendezvous (hardly!) and I kept pointing at all these bright, cheery and endearing posters of our fellow politicians. The oh so dramatic keepers of our national prosperity seemed to be staring into our very souls (or pockets…:P) ever so serenely, with smiles on their beautiful faces and a promise of peace and well being at their lips. One of them looked a lot like he had a fit, another smiled so beautifully, his white glistening (photoshopped) teeth shimmering in the fading light. Oh…I was touched…!
    Incidentally Bobslayer had to pop in for half and hour and I decided to take my lil nieces and go to cargills to get something to munch on. But at the same time…I decided to pocket a little marker and merrily we make our way out of my road.
    “magey pukata pissu” and a nice Spanish looking musto I felt would do a nice addition to the saviors of our nation and I ever so innocently remembered the marker in my pocket and added a little flavor to the wonderfully green poster. Next to that we have yet another individual (bearded) who I felt would look good with a pirate patch. So I ever so painstakingly drew one and –

    “EY EY WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” comes a shout. I turn, my lambent eyes brimming with innocence searching for the source. “YOULL GET CAUGHT. TROUBLE. POLICE POLICE!” he yells at me. I raised my hands and said “Alright man. Alright,” and the marker goes into my pocket again and I walk on with Bobslayer and my two nieces. Turns out it was a tuk driver who hurriedly got into his tuk and told me that if I got caught doing that I would get into some serious shit. I smile at him, my halo shining brighter by the second and I bend over to carry my almost-3 year old niece as we passed the cemetery, which is also home to a multitude of dogs.

    Fast forward: my bra strap comes off, my niece takes a tomato and squishes it and the other one throws a horrendous tantrum and threatened not to tell anyone except her mother (aka. BBC/ CNN). So after a small session of blackmailing during which Bobslayers father had already arrived to pick her up, she says “pakka promise” and told me she would reveal this to none if I kept shut about the “naughty things” she did, including barging into my room while I was applying cream (and didn’t have my trousers on). Kids. They’re easy to manipulate…mwhahahahahhah!

    Aaah…as I always say: “vandalism is the voice of the youth,” and this fondly reminds me of another incident where Barnacle and I left a message to our communist administration- arch enemy would be so proud of us for we chose their song “we will rise” as our little anthem, which our choir teacher traced down to us and told me that she was very impressed by the lyrics. Mind you, this is the very woman who forces me to take all these shrieky notes and makes us sing Boneym and ABBA. She once asked me to sing like Jim Reeves. Okay. Never mind.

    Say…what would happen if this reached those yellow-bellied mongrels??? : S :P

  • Another grammar question

    Have to keep bugging you folks with grammar questions because the people I work with don't really speak correct English. :)

    This time my question concerns what I believe is called either a reflective or possesive s (I may be wrong).

    Example: Eric's book. Sam's desk. Bonnie's office.

    What happens if the name or word already ends on S?

    Example: James. Jones.
    St. James's Park. Or is it St. James' Park?? I keep seeing both spellings, even on BBC (with 's) and SkyNews (without 's).

    I always thought that an 's is added to singular words ending on s (e.g. James) but NOT to plural words ending on s; those only get an apostrophe.

    So: St. James's Park, but "all owners' responsibilites" (stupid example, I know).

    Am I wrong? What is correct?

    So , just how good a singer is the winner of episode one of this years 'Britain's Got Talent' Susan Boyle ?
    She sounds good to me , and I'm not 'putting her down' at all : She was born with slight brain damage , claims to have never been kissed , was teased at school and has been on and off throughout her life , and she lives alone with her cat , near Glasgow .
    She seems refreshingly 'genuine' and likeable .
    Clearly she has a great singing voice , but I'm just wondering , how much is the massive worldwide acclaim she's suddenly receiving due to her talent as a singer , and how much due to ( a ) the inspiring story of : lonely , reclusive lady suddenly , at the age of 47 being revealed as talented singer , ( b ) people's guilt at laughing at her when she appeared on stage before she sang , and ( c ) an understandable backlash against 'manufactured' pop acts ?

    I'm not qualified to judge her singing voice , though , as I said , it sounds pretty good to me .

  • Grandparents

    My daughter doesn't want to bother with her grandparents, every year for 4 years she'd stay for 2 weeks, during the school hols. My parents would argue, my dad shouts and sometimes they hit each other. My daughter hated it and had never seen me and her dad argue like that...but to me it is normal to have my parents be like that. We now don't see them anymore.

    My mum has written a blog on how my daughter has no manners, so should i tell my daughter whos 11 to write a letter**? Its my daughter who told me my family were bad for us, but still what is the best option?

    Given the controversy over the legality within Formula 1 regulations surrounding the technical advances of the Brawn, Williams and Toyota teams' rear diffusers, and the uncharacteristic lack of points scored by Ferrari so far, do you think that the rest of the field are suffering from a severe case of "Sour Grapes Syndrome"?

    Surely if the FIA had cleared these devices as legal at the start of the season, as is standard practice, would it not be down to the other teams to design their own and run them too?

    And before you ask, yes I could have posted this on the Formula One group blog, but I want to gauge a wider opinion than just those interested in the sport.

    I know that alot of bloggers have web and walk now as far as my knowledge goes it is a little widgit that plugs into the side of your laptop and allows you to internet to your hearts content I have asked my old IT guy and he has said he can get me a Web and Walk dongle with a PAYG tmobile sim card for 57 quid and I will have to pay 2 quid a day now I am not sure if this is a good deal or if it means I have to pay 2 quid a day weather it is used or not or if it is only 2 quid a day only on the days I would use it etc. any help you can give me would be useful

  • You're Late!!!!

    After many years of working in the corporate and government fields as a a valued team member I experienced a lot of negativity over irrelevant and meaningless rules. A stress factor for countless office workers certainly, the one thing that doubtlessly upsets the start of our day, for whatever justification or reasons we oversleep, have to chase the cat away from the turkey, or hunt relentlessly for something we need to take with us to work that we've misplaced, certainly something that the majority of us have experienced on numerous occasions.
    What always surprised me with some of the supervisors was the unnatural concern over the fact that I/you was/were late, as often our hours of work were more determined by meeting a deadline and staying hours that extended well past the normal specified terms of our employment. So, it makes me wonder, are people in these positions of authority pre-disposed to negativity? Why do they create an issue out of such trivial matters? Is it really vital that arrive at 8.30 instead of the 8.33.45267 that you actually showed up? I have always found this to be a point of meaningless stress which makes the work environment unpleasant and negative. Reality tells me that if the job is done, and we've made our best efforts to arrive on time and often put in extra time without compensation to fulfill our employment responsibilities that the supervisor might be put to better use serving coffee to the staff and contributing something positive to the workplace, any thoughts?
    as they feel that their jobs in this capacity are otherwise meaningless unless they can find fault in the arrival time of an employee, discounting their additional efforts and time spent in the name of the cause.

  • Drafts and Deletions

    Two questions:
    1st Question.
    Ah Myrtle saved a post as a draft last night and could she hell as find out how to actually post it. She ended up copying it, removing all the unnecessary html, deleting the draft and reposting. There has got to be an easy way of publishing a draft?

    Second question.
    Is it possible to completely delete, remove obliterate all details of an old blog so my PC doesn't remember the old user name and login? I think I've heard the answer is no but need conformation and the answer to why not?
    I presume the deletion of the user name from my PC can be sorted by going into the inner bowels of my Pc but I'm only (or was only) a simple steelworker.

    The reason is that if we were to do this, 95% of the time someone will create a second account and cheat by reading the answers first, and then inputing them with the second account.

    However, questions over a period of time ARE the same. So, while Mary may not get the same questions as Robert today, by the end of the week or month they will have played the same questons.

    Yes, I have googled and pages of offers come up, but, Are they good or bad? Is there some hidden charges? Are they just false sites to get your information?

    I have a website that has been on the net for three years, it has no advertising or anything to sell, the site is just an attempt to help others. The next year will cost me £275, a rise of 10%. Initially I wrote the site and needed a little help to get up and running, now any changes are made by me. There are about seven pages to my site but I can reduce this number by omitting some parts, I am willing to accept advertising on the site.

    The present site has had over 58,000 visits, 147,000 number of pages, and 180,000 hits since 2006, these figures may mean some thing to those that know about websites.

    Any advice or help that you can give, either from actual experience that you have of free website hosts, less costly hosts, or ways that would provide income to pay for my site would be very much appreciated.

    I know it's officially a 'depressant' , but I do'nt think that's the same as saying it makes you feel depressed .
    ( Although it can do , especially to alcoholics . )
    ( And the dividing line between alcoholism and alcohol-dependancy  can become blurred  . )

    Many depressively inclined people self-medicate on alcohol , which , if they get the dosage right , can seem to help .

    What was the last potty thing you said or thought of?

    Mine was, in the toddler group I go to once a week with my son. We was packing up the tables and chairs after the kids snack break and I was struggling to fold the table legs away on one of the tables. A good looking greying dad came over to help me and said: "Bit stiff isn't it!?" And then we both chuckled, but to me I was blushing and also had bad thoughts!

  • Finding Coins, A Dilemma? Your Opinions Please

    When I first came to Asia in 2002 I was walking along the street in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, with a friend and I stooped down to pick up a coin on the street. My friend said don't you know they may have energy attachments?
    Really? What do you mean? was my immediate response.
    "Here people use coins to pray with, and energies that are put into them for whatever the purpose of the prayer is."
    Wow, I didn't reply as many of you may surmise by saying, "oh Nonsense", as all things and beings consist of energy. Years of being brought up and conditioned in the Western World, where we always say "Find a coin and it makes your luck for a day." Well, it presented a problem to be solved for me, and had to give it some great thought.
    As I'm now in my 7th year of immersion here, I have come to appreciate the cultural foibles of the society, and the fact that there are all types of energies put into these coins which are then tossed on the ground with the energies of the prayer. As we all agree there is not such thing as all good people, nor is there all bad people, so some of the coins I surmise carry positive vibrations, and some others may not, sounds reasonable to me, or do you think it's just superstition?
    Personally, I'm more of a mystical person, so I gave a great deal of consideration to my friend's advices on this matter.
    Finally, after much self-deliberation I came to the following conclusion: Not all found coins will bring you good luck, nor will they necessarily bring you bad luck, so in the end this is what I thought best to do with the found coins.
    I would gather them up, put them in a separate pocket from my own change and put them into piggy banks sorting them by denomination in the 3 Lucks, (Fu, LU & Shu) coin banks. when they were approaching full I would take them to the bank, change them for bills and then contribute my findings to a charitable organization.
    In this manner I thought the negative energies would be removed, cleansed, and the coins used to help the needy.

I know for a fact that people view me as a strong, independent, capable woman but very often they are oblivious to the fact that my show of confidence is mere armour plating and that beneath it all I am a very vunerable person.

    A comment from Jembajr got me thinking. I had not realised it was meabt to be read as Jemba Junior and had always thought it was short for Jem badger!!! Yeah ok i am a bit nuts. It got me wondering why people chose the blog names they did?
