As opposed to the Honest Guru, who frequently gets quoted elsewhere on BCUK.

I haven't a clue what you're talking about, but that's not unusual for me!

What, the Honest Guru, or the content of the original post?

What are you talking about? i am confused.

Both, actually. I've never heard of The Honest Guru, and I don't really know what you're original post is getting at. I don't think I can be the only one who doesn't get it. Am I just not in the right clique or am I just terminally un-hip?

Sh****
I have just been hunting for this, which was supposed to be on one of my personal blogs. Then I found it here.
Sorry, nothing to do with 'Ask or Answer', just me venting my spleen.
But this is the meaning of the original post: If you keep making the same mistake and keep getting hurt, will you eventually become immune?

Cassandra, Why would you make the same mistake if you got hurt on the first occasion? Wouldn't you re-think and try a different approach or action?

Perhaps 'mistake' is the wrong word.
Take the same chance might be a better way of putting it.
If circumstances are different, the outcome might be different - and so you are tempted to try it.
Particularly if you are always being told that you are too cautious.

So ... if you have a headache, and try to cure it by continually banging your head against the wall, the pain will eventually be so great as to cover up the original ache. And you will feel better??
Would that be the advice of a Dishonest Guru? Or a complete idiot?
"Inoculate yourself against disappointment.
The more it happens, the less it hurts."
In other words - accept failure, get over it, give up! The words of a total loser! (The Guru of course, not anyone here.)

Surely the point is not 'give up' but 'keep trying'?
Is that such bad advice?
You're going to be disappointed sometimes, so accept it, and deal with it.
don't let it stop you from taking chances.

Actually, this was really me.
