The price of fizz these days

by soyunperdedor @ 2008-07-31 - 22:26:37

Forget gas and petrol.

A couple of years ago, if you went to a bar or pub and ordered, for example, a lemonade or coke, the usual price would be around 90p - £1.20.

Unfortunately the price does seen to be creeping up in many places for regular soft drinks.

The other day, in an average bar-cafe type place, I was charged £2.75. Didn't realise until the bill for all the food and drinks arrived and had been paid for.

Explain, please, in this instance, the justification behind £2.75 for a glass of Sprite.

HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!

by trintrin1x @ 2008-07-29 - 16:41:10

Don't know if this will work but i'll try it anyway

The reason i have'nt been about recently is i can't get any blogs up, i can get onto the blog website but everytime i go to read anything, even my own blogs it comes up page cannot be displayed and at the bottom it says Cannot find server DNS error, this has been ever since natalie got her room carpet fitted and the computer was moved out her room.

Then the router wasn't letting me on the internet and i don't know what she has done, Mo knows a wee Russian guy that he works with and he is quite good with computers, he gave us a loan of his router n it is fine so i don't know what the problem is he says it is the actual blog site that is to fault, but how is everybody else getting on it.  I can get on to my messages and read them until i click on read post so if anybody has any ideas it will have to be short n sweet so i can read it,

SOMEBODY HELP ME! (WEAPONSGRADE WHERE R U?)
I said if they don't get it fixed soon i will start throwing punches, cause i am getting really pissed off   :(  Trina x

Bilingual Dilemma

by Chyna_Doll @ 2008-07-28 - 19:37:59

Although I speak English all the time as I am around English people all the time now, recently I thought I'd go back to my roots and want to learn Chinese again. (I haven't decided yet whether to learn Cantonese or mandarin or both yet!) But I am going to have a look at books/DVDs/CDs very soon in shops and online!

But the thing is I'd like my son to learn too. :DD But when speaking with a neighbour who has a half chinese/white grandson a year older than my boy, he said his mother (chinese) is getting him to learn and he think around three years old is far to young and says 'they're only babies!'. (And no I didn't tell him I wanted my son to learn too but I did secretly in my mind!)

It's just a nice thought if he could learn both some day. Maybe later on! :DD

Do "Bi-Elections" matter ?

by joebangles @ 2008-07-25 - 12:05:54

The gain or loss of one Member of Parliament, when the party in power has a large majority, will make no difference.

Yes, it will send a message, but, does any party take notice of that message?

Which is greener?

by SeasideMan @ 2008-07-17 - 15:12:56

We used to use supermarket plastic bags as bin liners, but now we always use cloth bags for shopping so our supply of bags has stopped. So a simple question:

Should we buy bin-liners, or not use them and clean the bin regularly?

If we go for not using bags and clean the bin instead, that means we'll have to use bleach or similar to clean the bin every few days as otherwise it will stink and be unhygienic. So it's a choice between using nasty chemicals or buying plastic: which is better?

If there were any right-on biodegradable bin-liners, that might be the answer. Do such things exist, I wonder?

Cheers, Tom.

Which bin?

by joebangles @ 2008-07-17 - 00:23:03

Like most folk, I suppose, the local council have supplied me with bins for the disposal of waste, a black bin for general waste, a brown bin for garden waste and a green bin for food waste including bones.

My cat loves me and regularly brings me gifts of dead mice or birds.

The question is, Which bin should I use to dispose of this gift?

Word Processing problem : Is it Just me ?

by SloshedAndVexed @ 2008-07-14 - 19:57:08

When typing on different pc's that I've used I've found that sometimes after editing/deleting some of the text I get stuck with the problem of :
When I type , in front of text that's already there , every time I type in a letter the letter in front of it , on the other side of of the flashing bar gets deleted .

I hope I've explained that clearly enough .
I thought  it was just an 'online' problem , but today it happened offline when I was trying to type a letter using m/soft word 2000 .
Very frustrating .

Do others experience the same problem , and is there a quick and easy way of remedying it , without having to type the whole thing out from the beginning again , losing one existing letter every time a new one is typed in - ?

Question for Christians: What if Judaism is correct?

by SeasideMan @ 2008-07-13 - 20:27:17

There are 6 basic "Messianic criteria" , but study of the Old Testament reveals more. The basic 6 are these:

The Messiah must:

1. have the correct genealogy by being descended from King David and King Solomon,
2. be anointed King of Israel,
3. return the Jewish People to Israel,
4. rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem,
5. bring peace to the world and end all war,
6. bring knowledge of God to the world.

So all you Christians: what if the Jews are right and you are wrong?

Cheers, Tom.

why do cats like to stay high up?

by sidejump @ 2008-07-12 - 20:49:11

I notice that our cats like to move across the room without touching the floor if possible. They will jump from chair to table to sofa, to ironing board, to table, to windowsill etc. Sometimes a big leap is required, but it still seems preferable to going on the floor.
Are they scared of the snakes? is this some memory thing to do with leopards in trees?

A pint of tact please

by MonkeyPie @ 2008-07-11 - 14:11:05

Because my diplomacy skills can be likened to the bluntness of a spoon, could anyone suggest a kind and convincing way of telling my brother that there is such a thing as less is more when it comes to muscles? He's a little insecure in general and has recently taken to the Body Beautiful a little over-enthusiastically. A few megatonnes of ProteinShakesR'Us later and he's twice the size he once was. About the size of a modest semi-detached.

I'm worried because he's now the size of your average bouncer and no clothes fit him but also because he's such a gentle, well spoken chap that it just appears a bit odd when you talk to him.

So yeah, crash course in diplomacy, preferably from someone who might know what's going through his mind when he decides to model himself on Arnie in the Conan the Warrior Barbarian fella days please.

Why, on packed rush hour tubes, in stifling heat and with my face squashed up against the doors and some bloke standing on my foot, does some idiot have to call out "can you all move down please, people want to get on" ????!!!!! Aaarrrggghh If there was anywhere to move to I wouldn't have this blokes armpit in my face, you stupid bastard! Piss off and wait for the next train!
Phew, that feels better......until Monday morning.....

Books ... What's the point?

by grumpus @ 2008-07-04 - 11:13:46

I have just done a rough count of the books I have in my house; approximately 400. Not a lot by some people's standards, but they take up valuable space. Most are reference works on almost every imaginable subject, collected over several decades.

I love books on many levels, but hardly ever refer to them any more. If I want information I turn to the Internet.

However, even thinking about throwing them out fills me with fear, pain, guilt and doubt. To box them up and carry them up to the loft would be an effort, not just for me but worse still for someone else after I die.

I like the look and feel of books. My collection of books defines who I am. But ... do I still need them? What's the point of keeping them? Any ideas??

What value is there to be had in Space Exploration?

by DominicGee @ 2008-07-03 - 16:29:31

Why bother exploring the Moon or Mars? Why bother collecting space dust or sending probes to the outer reaches of the solar system?

Aren't astronauts and other enthusiasts just dreaming when they expect to find life? Aren't they kidding themselves by denying the fact that despite the good chance of life existing on other planets, the chance of us ever encountering any is prectically zero?

Even if we were able to reach near light speed, wouldn't it still take years to reach anywhere of significance (and then you've gotta think about how to slow down...). Is this a result of a generation bought up on Star Trek and Star Wars where gravity is turned on and off at will and spaceships can leap into lightspeed and back down again in a matter of seconds?

Or is it an expression of the nature of the human spirit - curious, ambitious, always seeking answers and learning to understand our surroundings...

Cake anyone?

by prydwen @ 2008-07-03 - 08:12:32

What was the name of the cake which had a vol au vont base, filled with sponge topped with icing and shredded coconut?

I am sure it was known as a cheese cake or swiss cheese cake.
