We always heard and read the news about plane crash. And it's very annoying that people died in what they called that flying is so safe. I just wondering about this indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff? I know it may sounds unconforming and kind of philosophical argument, but why?

Yeah i agree to that, but it should not be called that flying is so safe.

nothing is 100% safe - that is impossible.
flying, statistically speaking, is far safer in terms of deaths or injuries per passenger mile than car travel.
The reason not every car crash is reported in the papers (unlike every plane crash) is because we would have run out of trees to print them on long ago.

The helicopters that the MOD have are very safe, they don't even leave the ground, just been sitting there for 6 years, it appears that clouds in the sky cause problems, still, they only cost us taxpayers millions and millions and millions.

Flight is safe, relatively speaking.
Opening terminal 5 at Heathrow in theory allows it to handle 480000 flights per year. That's just one airport.
By comparison, here is a link to the Aviation Safety Network of flight accidents and casualties: http://aviation-safety.net/statistics/period/stats.php?cat=A1
As some has already said, the black box is not in itself wholly indestructible - it is protected so that data can be retrieved from it to help explain why a plane went down. It is unfeasible to make an entire plane indestructible. It would be expensive, it would be a lengthy process, and it probably wouldn't get off the ground.
It //is// "annoying" that planes crash and people die, but it is uncommon given the volume of flights happening every year. Air companies would never claim that it is totally safe, just like driving a car along a motorway at high speed, or travelling on a highspeed train. Accidents happen, we can't prevent every single one.

Over 3000 people die on the roads in the UK every year. In comparison, accounting for hours travelling, air flight is much safer.
It's all relative, innit?

It would be utterly pointless to make an indestructible aircraft anyway, even if it were possible. The g-forces involved in airliner crashes are often in the region of 5000g to 6000g.
100g, even for a few milliseconds, is roughly what it takes to cause a fatality either immediately or shortly after due to internal injuries.
There are some things that *could* be done to increase peoples' chances after a 'survivable' accident. Rear-facing seats is an example, but no one wants to fly like that. Smoke hoods for every passenger would add around 100 quid to the price of every ticket... bye bye Easyjet and Ryanair. Filling up with the fuel the military use in their jets... it is less likely to flash but costs twice as much - unaffordable.
Flying is a compromise between safety and cost but you are more likely to die in a 'trouser accident' than an aircraft accident. Google it

or the stuff kids dolls are made of because they always make it!!

safriz

nothing is indestructible, not even the black box.It is placed inside a reinforced steel cubical, and that makes it hard to be damaged.
Making a whole plane like that will be technologically too complicated,as planes unlike tanks have to fly.The other reason is money,as such plane will cost a fortune to build and operate, and wont be affordable for passengers.
