Why claim to be older ?

by SloshedAndVexed @ 2008-05-11 - 23:36:31

I was just wondering , Why do a few ladies on this 'blog site claim to be in their 70's or 80's when they are actually much younger than that ?
- And no I'm not assuming all people of that age group to be computer illiterate . . .
- And yes they have every right to claim to be much older , but . .
-Is it because they think that , if they reveal their true age , male users of this site will pester them ?
- And if so does that happen much to women here ? -
- Bearing in mind that a polite comment or invite to ones 'friends list' is not harrassment - ?
 Fairly trivial I know , but just that I sometimes wonder . . .

Hi S&V, How do you know that they are claiming to be older? The ladies that I know, and my friends are in that age group, all do their damnedest to knock a few years off.

I filled in the details on my profile as honestly as I could and, maybe stupidly, imagined that others did the same except where there was an obviously incorrect detail that had been intended.

I do find that many new users of the computer start when they retire, so, in their mid sixty's, the course that the local library run seems to be filled with a mob with grey hair, I taught myself just three years ago when my son gave me an old computer and have whiled away, maybe wasted away, many hours since then.

Possibly disappointed that I have not been harassed by any ladies.

Thanks Trevor , I'm convinced that 2 or 3 ladies on this site do claim on their profiles to be older , and I think that one or two may have half-admitted so , in reply to my post ; as I said that's up to them , I was just curious as to why , and , yeah I think it's great that many retired people have become accusttomed to computers and the internet , - Martin .

I know some people do to hide their ages in case their other half or even real life friends/family find out - perhaps! :)

I am not too bothered about mine and have not been pestered by men luckily! lol

People are probably more understanding / sympathetic with an aged woman than a young one. They are unlikely to attract harsh criticism for what they write and also stop idiots trying it on with them. I have noticed that too - no PROOF but 80 somethings who seem to speak with some authority on modern/young subjects.

This could be fun. Maybe I should knock a few years off??? :)

Personally I don't see why anyone needs to give their age, unless perhaps they're under 18.
