Internet problems!

by trintrin1x @ 2008-05-06 - 19:22:08

Every time i use the computer after a while, it always comes up "   internet has encountered a problem and will have to close down" and if u are in the middle of something like writing a post, its gone, again as computer illiterate as i am, i thought it was the computer doing this but natalie explained it was the internet, does this happen to anyone else? what causes it?

Answers on a postcard please! :)) :)) x

Yes I get that internet explorer message from time to time - Do'nt know what to suggest other that the usual of remove temporary files , defragment , restart , scan for spyware / viruses , and , though you can normally instantly reconnect , very annoying if you lose what you were in the middle of doing . . .

I had an issue like that... turned out to be some little trojan thing I'd picked up from the web that had slipped past my anti-virus un-noticed. It might be worth going to one of the online scanning facilities (try Trend Micro HouseCall) and letting their software scan to see if it finds anything.

Alternatively, stand over the bloody thing with a grim expression and wave a big stick! :>>

If all else fails and you have 'Restore' on your computer try that, choosing a restore date that was well before your problem began. That always worked for me when I struck such 'strange' problems.

I have been using Vista for over a year now and have had no problems like yours. Vista has top security as well as self correcting facilities.

Yeh, I always used to have to restore my machine back and whilst it was super fast after doing it...I lost countless photographs that I'd never backed up..That was windows xp.

Now, My lappy on the other hand is Vista and in the last 5 months...Not a single problem has a risen, what so ever - Apart from I have aweful trouble in putting the bloomin thing down -

yeah I usually get that message when I go to yahoo.com! Weird!

Internet explorer is crap.

Dont go performing a system restore as the problem does not lie with your PC, its IE itself.
In your start menu (bottom left) you should have an icon entitled 'Windows update' or 'Microsoft Update', you need to click this and follow the prompts to enable you to have a fully updated version of windows.

You see, IE (Internet explorer) uses special files called 'Direct Link Libraries' to enable it to use all its snazzy functions, these are shite, and fuck up on a regular basis - sometimes triggered by bad code in a web site etc.

Windows update will rectify this by updating the old files with new.

Dont download random Anti-spyware software from sites as they usually contain spy/ad/malware themselves.

Bottom line is, you dont want to be using IE, download a browser called 'Mozilla Firefox' as its 100 times more relaiable and set up to be just as user friendly as windows.

Its also better at streaming live vids like YouTube etc without hanging.

A comment above mentioned Vista, stay away if possible until Service pack 2 is realeased as its about as secure as a junkies wallet at its present stage, stick with XP and update monthly until then.

If your problem persists, i'll give you a list of locations that contain easy to use applications which will solve your problems.

Yes, i am a computer mastermind. No, i dont have buck teeth.

Cheers

Right,

You need to tell me exactly what your error message says.

Im thinking one of 2 things.

1) 'EXPLORER.exe has casued a problem and must be closed'
2) 'IEXPLORE.exe has caused a problem and must be closed'

Note the 'I' in option 2.

Explorer is the program that lets you see everything you see when using your computer, start menu, windows, icons, the lot.

I-Exporer is internet explorer, its function is obvious.

If indeed your using firefox, then the problem is (im assuming) Explorer itself.

Let me know what the craic is, and i'll sort it.

Cheers again
