Lock them away and don't use them?
Oh, if only it were that simple!
And yet, once upon a time it was.....*sigh* -

I check my online banking twice or thrice a week (if not twice or thrice a day
) so I can report any odd activity immediately. Been with my bank forever (and now working for them) so would hope they'd believe me and sort it.
Failing that, Jen's right, don't use one often. The banks should also spot irregular usage and flag it with you though... -

don't use credit card on any unknown website.
Jenray's comment is very helpful, and one more check is that the website you are about to use must have a telephone address and their registered trading address. -

When using them online, don't store it on any database/website!
